CHRISTIE, David Eugene (aka "Bear") of We’Koqma’q First Nation. Born in Baddeck on Tuesday, December 27, 1949 passed on to the spirit world on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the age of 69 years. He was a son of the late Jesse Belle (MacAskill) and John L. Christie (of Englishtown). Dave was an adventurer, he loved the outdoors and found peace in working with nature. He worked as a computer technician in his early 20’s and always boasted about his tech skills. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, friend and will be forever embedded in our hearts, for his kindness, determination, work ethics and for becoming a part of our Mi’kmaq family. Dave was moved by our Mi’kmaq traditional teachings and held them close to his heart and values. He found direction in his life. He went back to school in his late 40’s to obtain his B.A., B. Ed, and Masters from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB. Dave was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 19, North Sydney. His last post will be honoured. He found a passion in learning our Mi’kmaq history and dedicated his life to teaching. As a teacher he worked in Seoul, Korea for a year, and many Northern Remote Communities, and We’Koqma’q First Nations. He helped to shape the Adult Education Program in We’Koqma’q and supported his first students to have graduated from that program. He was also a very talented craftsman. His work was unique and created one of a kind pieces that inspired his connection to his vision with nature. Granddad Dave inspired many people and touched our hearts in many special ways. He was an excellent story teller, and provided hours of entertainment to those who listened and shared his laughs and company. My he continue to share his wonderful adventures in the spirit world. Dave is survived by his wife, Joan (Googoo); daughters, Tania, Miranda, Rosie, Sherri and Debbie; son, Gordie; sisters, Becky, Norrie; brothers, John "Non", Eddie, Angus "Gussi" and Lloyd; grandchildren, Earl, Tikisha, Ta’pit, godchildren, Skye River, Alisha and Brittany Christie; many nieces and nephews.
