COTIE, John Philip – Age 58, St. Peter’s, Cape Breton passed away on Canada Day, 2019 in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born on June 13, 1961, in Sydney, Philip lived his entire life in St. Peter’s and was an integral part of the village. He mowed lawns, shoveled snow and did many errands for the people of the community, especially seniors. His quick wit could be depended on to provide an answer in any situation.
He is survived by his parents, Phonse and Shirley Cotie, St. Peter’s; brother, David (Mary) Cotie, Grand Greve; sister, Andrea (Peter) Melnyk, Tantallon; nieces, Tanya Fitzpatrick, Shauna Cotie, Kristen and Alyssa Melnyk; nephews, Dennis Delorey and Connor Melnyk; great niece and nephews, Logan, Brian, Duke and JR.
Throughout his brief illness, Philip’s community rallied around him and showed their support. From the many who visited with gifts, cards and food to those who attended his birthday party at the hospital, your kindness is appreciated. Special thanks to his guardian angels, Phyllis, Mary and Judy and the hospital staff who took such wonderful care of him.
Funeral mass will be held from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s on Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m. with Father Antolin Asor officiating. Donations in his memory can be made to the Strait Richmond Healthcare Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
