Please share a memory of Murray to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Chisholm, Murray - Age 92 years of Whycocomagh. It is with broken hearts that we the family of Murray Chisholm of Whycocomagh, Inverness Co. announce our Dads passing on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born on January 31st, 1927 in Sydney but home was in Kewstoke. He was the only child of the late Alexander "Sandy" and Mary Sarah "Minnie" (MacKenzie) Chisholm.
Murray is survived by sons, John (Carolle), Robert (Cathy); daughter, Eleanor (Perry) Pye; grandchildren, Ainsley, Kyle (Katie), Trevor (Janelle), Katelyn and was very proud to become a great grandparent to Emma Ruth in November 2018. Dad is survived by brothers-in-law, Stewart (Cindy) Munro, Robert (Norma) Munro and sister-in-law, Miriam Munro; also many nieces and nephews. Dad was at his happiest when we were all around. He was predeceased by our Mom, Ruth in 2007 who he missed immensely. Dad was predeceased by a chosen and special "sister" Jenny Ruddick; brothers-in-law, Alcorn Munro, George Munro, Donnie Munro, Donald MacAulay, Clarke MacDougall and sisters-in-law, Gladys Munro, Jean Mac Aulay, Lorraine Mac Dougall, and nephews, Graham and Greg Munro. Dad is also survived by countless friends who all held a special place in Dads life and in our hearts. Many thanks to all those who visited Dad so often at his home over the years and later at the Inverness Hospital and Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
Dad was a life member and long serving Elder of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, member of the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department, life member of the Cape Clear Snowmobile Club, member and supporter of the Stewartdale Cemetery Commission, the Whycocomagh and Area Development Association and long standing member of the Retail Gasoline Dealers Association of Nova Scotia.
Dads working career began at an early age and was very proud to have owned three commercial trucks by the age of 20. After a number of years and various career paths he was proud to establish the Whycocomagh Esso where he was the proprietor for many years. Even in retirement he remained very active as a proprietor of the Sears outlet office and returned to his roots of his first love in trucking, which included snow removal, landscaping and various other jobs.
Our Dad was an exceptional man with deep rooted family values and ties. There wasn’t anything he would not do for his family and also his friends. He gave so much of himself and asked for nothing in return.
Special thanks to the Inverness Hospital staff for their care where Dad remained from March to December. We want to thank the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care of our Dad, especially during his final days. Thank you to that same staff for their kindness towards us, Dads family. Your continuous offers of tea, food, a comfortable chair, Tim runs, and hugs didn't go unnoticed. We appreciated it more than you know.
