Cohoon, Katherine "Kaye" Pearl - Age 84 of Canso. Born in Goldboro, the daughter of Marjorie B. (Giffin) and William D. MacMillan... loving wife of Donald G. Cohoon - Canso, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28th, 2017 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney at the youthful age of 84 surrounded by family. Leaving to mourn her are her loving sisters, Barbara (Junior) Filiatault, Lantz; and Deanna (Win) Nickerson, Hazel Hill; "daughter" ,Marjorie (Joe) Richardson, Canso; stepson, Michael 'Mick' Cohoon, Winnipeg, MB; step-granddaughter, Shannon Derksen, Winnipeg, MB; sister-in-law, Rosalie MacMillan and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; and beloved friends. After graduating from Business College, she worked for CJFX in Antigonish, and later at E. Nicholas & Sons in Canso for a short time, before joining the office staff of B.C. Packers Ltd. , Canso, then in their Halifax Office for several years; joined Cardinal Proteins in Halifax as executive secretary to the Vice President, and transferred to Canso as Office Manager when the plant was built. Married Don 1969 and moved to PEI - Office Manager with Babineau Fisheries in Morell and Souris; after 7 years returned to Canso where she worked with National Sea Products, then as school secretary at both Fanning Elementary and Canso High School until retirement. While working in Halifax, where she spent 14 years, she traveled to the U.S.A. and Western Canada, and also enjoyed two trips to Europe. Held many membership over the years; N.S. Girl Singers under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Murray, Jubilee Singers on CBC's Singalong Jubilee in Halifax; Community Health Board, Antigonish/Guysborough Seniors Council Board, Preventing Falls Together/Ageing Well Together coalition; Shamrock Seniors Club and the Red Hatter's; wrote a weekly column for the Guysborough Journal for many years; was co-editor of seniors quarterly "Privileged Years"; and a volunteer for many organizations, especially the Stan Roger's Folk Festival where she served on the Finance Committee from its onset. Above all else, her loving family was closest to her heart, but she also had many dear friends throughout her lifetime, whom her cherished. Pre-deceased by her husband, Donald G. Cohoon (2012); parents, William 'Billy Mac' (1986) and Marjorie B. (Giffin) MacMillan (1969); sisters, Isabel Munro (1954) Helen MacMillan (1997) and brother, Harold MacMillan (2016). A memorial mass will be celebrated in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso on Saturday, June 3rd, at 11a.m. with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation by request and interment will follow the service where she will be laid to rest with her husband in the Star of the Sea Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Canso Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her name. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso.
