Callum James Cameron
August 28, 2016 - February 7, 2017.
On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in the IWK, Halifax after a five month struggle to survive, Callum James was greeted by his special angel James Poirier and is now resting peacefully in his Great Grandma Wilma’s and great Grandpa Michael's arms in heaven.
Born on August 28, 2016 in Halifax, NS, at 6 lbs 10 ounces, Callum was diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome, part of which left him with a serious heart condition. While his short life was filled with multiple surgeries and numerous setbacks, it is the countless examples of his toughness and ability to overcome the odds that will survive. Although Callum’s illness made him appear frail, our little fighter possessed strength, perseverance and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. He was and always will be our Viking warrior. In his short time with us, he taught us all about courage, love, life, family, and the power of prayer. Through his life, we are reminded that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
Callum is survived by his loving parents, Shane Cameron and Jenna McDonald of Port Hawkesbury and St Peter's , N.S.; paternal grandparents, Brian and Mary Elizabeth Cameron of Port Hawkesbury, NS; Maternal grandparents, Denise (Sheldon Breen) MacDonald (Johnston) of Red Islands and Joseph (Chantal Boucher) MacDonald of St Peter's, NS; paternal great-grandparent, Bill Cameron , Richard & Donelda Gillis all of Margaree, maternal great-grandparents, Herman & Lucy Mac Donald of L'Ardoise, NS and Cathy Johnston of Red Islands, NS . He also leaves behind his Aunts Chelsea & Cassie Cameron and Tessa MacDonald and Uncles Zachary Cameron and Noah Ashe and great many other family members and friends of his parents who grieve deeply at his passing. He was predeceased by his paternal great-grandmother, Wilma Cameron of Margaree, NS; and maternal great-grandfather, Michael Johnston of Red Islands, NS.
The family is grateful to the many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life. Love and thanks are extended to the entire medical team at the IWK Hospital, especially the PICU and cardiology teams. Because of their dedication, love and support, Callum was able to survive some of his early toughest medical challenges, enabling his loved ones to enjoy precious time with him at home. All of these special people, too numerous to mention, provided Callum with love and dignity in his life and also in his death.
