Carter, Gertrude "Gertie" - age 81 of Canso, Guysborough Co. Passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, born in the valley, Gertie was a daughter of the late Chester and Eliza (Carrington) Greencorn. She had been employed at the Canso fish plant for a number of years until she retired. Gertie is survived by brothers, Cecil, Canning; Alton, Medford, Kings Co.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Emmett; daughter, Connie; sons, Charlie and Robert; sisters, Kathleen, Cora, Isabelle and Florence; brother, Curtis. Visitation will take place Saturday, August 22 from 12 noon - 2 p.m. with the funeral being held at 3 p.m. all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso, with Rev.'s David and Betty Wheeler officiating. Burial to follow in Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso. Memorial donations in memory of Gertie may be made to Antigonish SPCA or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
