Casey, Lawrence James – 86, Fox Island, Guys. Co. Passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Carter) Casey. He was a truck and ambulance driver, carpenter, fisherman, and jack of all trades. He loved his dog, Rex and cat, Chip. He loved travelling with his nephew Francis and spending time with his special niece, Jamie and her husband Donnie Haines. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Mary Ann (Hanlon) Casey; sister, Blanche Richardson, Canso; brothers, Freeman, Canning; Arthur (Joyce), Halifax; in-laws, Gertrude Carter, Canso; Curtis Greencorn, Allie Greencorn, Bell Pineo, all from the Valley; Walter "Skipper" Hanlon, Thomas (Ruth) Hanlon, Catherine (Cass) Horne, Nora (Addie) Underwood, Thelma (Wally) De Wolfe and Dorothy Hanlon, all of Canso; James Hanlon, Isaacs Harbour, Ed Hanlon, P.E. I.; Joyce Lumsden; Guysborough; and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence was predeceased by his 1st wife, Florence "Fonnie" Greencorn; brothers, Lawson, Hughie; sisters, Bell O’Leary, Mary Robicheau and Ellen Mosher; brothers-in-law, Harold Richardson, George Mosher and William O’Leary; sisters-in-law, Alberta and Frances Casey, and 5 siblings in infancy. Special thanks to Donnie and Jennifer Snow for helping out when he needed it, and friends Gladys Snow and her son, Kenny, Fox Island; Manzer and Anna Haines, Little Dover. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 121 School Street, Canso. Funeral mass will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 46, Canso. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Lawrence to Eastern Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Canso.
