CHRISTIE, Arthur William - 85, of Canso Seaside Manor, Canso, passed away peacefully in Eastern Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Born in Canso, Arthur spent his entire life there and was a resident of the Manor for the past 24 years where the staff and residents were his adopted family. Arthur was the son of the late Clara and Clayton Christie. Although handicapped he never complained and could always put a smile on your face; he was a very kind man and he loved children and music. Through the years he sponsored several children in third world countries through the Children International Organization and loved it when the little children would come to the Manor to visit. He was an avid fan of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival and festival regular Chuck Brodsky wrote a song about Arthur entitled "The Man Who Blew Kisses" because anyone who seen Arthur was a recipient of his kisses. Besides his parents Arthur was predeceased by two brothers; Luther and Marvin. He is survived by one sister; Sarah Christie, sister in law Sylvia Christie and her children Allen and Vanessa; great-niece, Aliyah. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and attended services regularly. Visitation will be Thursday, February 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral will be held on Friday, February 22 at 2:00 PM from St. Paul’s United Church, Union St. Canso, with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating, with reception to follow in church vestry. Burial in church cemetery at a later date. Donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to St. Paul's United Church, Canso.
