Cody, John Alexander, 71 - High Crest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke, formerly of Manchester, Guysborough Co., died peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday, January 26, 2013, in the High Crest Nursing Home.
Born in Manchester, he was a son of the late Tom and Eunice (Ross) Cody. John worked in Mulgrave as a stevedore, loading boats and worked as a pulp cutter for many years. He loved hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his daughter Doris and partner Julie, Cloverville, Antigonish Co.; grandson, Aaron (Valerie) Antigonish; great-grandchildren who brought much joy and happiness into his life, Tanner and Sawyer Alexander; little buddy Gerard, a.k.a. Bam Bam; sisters, Patsy and Trudy both of Truro; Ann and Eileen, both of Dartmouth; brothers, Francis, Guysborough; Stephen, New Glasgow. John was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, one month ago to the day, Shirley (Scranton); daughter, Marjorie; son, John Jr.; a son in infancy; brothers, Charles and James. John will be greatly missed by the staff and residents of the Nursing Home for all the help he gave.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday from Boylston United Church, with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Boylston United Church Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Red Cross.
