CONNOLLY, Donald Joseph, 66, Boylston, Guysborough County, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to the late Donald and Edith (Long) Connolly, he was raised in Boylston, Guysborough County.
He took up trade as a mechanic and resided in Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. He returned to Boylston in 1973 where he later took over the family general store from his father. He remained a merchant for 37 years and thoroughly enjoyed serving the residents of the area. He regarded each of his customers as a friend. He proudly passes along the family store to his son, Donald "Craig".
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Marie Perlé Levangie; children, Randolph, Boylston, Suzanne (Oran) Hall, Fort St. John, BC and Donald "Craig", Boyston; grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Devan, Bailey, Dylan, Chasen, and Benjamin; brothers, Myles (Elizabeth), Guysborough, Maurice (Elizabeth) Lower Sackville; sister, Patricia (Philip) Cormier, Lower Sackville; nephews, Paul Joseph and Christopher Connolly; step-mother Theresa Connolly; step-brothers, John and Gerard; step-sisters, Claire, Norma and Lynn and special friend Daisy. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary in infancy. The family especially wishes to thank the Palliative Support staff of Karen Hoben and Maureen Long who were important to Dad and took such exceptional care of him at home throughout his illness.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held Friday, August 27th at 11a.m. in St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough with Fr. Jonathan Nweke officiating. Interment in St. Ann's Cemetery, Guysborough. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Guysborough. Donations in his memory may be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or Guysborough Palliative Care.
