CLEARY (Walsh), Mary Catherine - 83 (1922-2006), Roman Valley, Guysborough Co., peacefully passed away in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on Sunday, May 7, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Roman Valley, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Carrie (Anderson) Walsh.
Mary was a devoted and very unselfish wife, mother and grandparent. Mom loved singing, dancing, and was an avid card player. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Guysborough Intervale, and was a member of the choir and ladies aid for many years. Mary spent countless hours knitting mittens for her friends, family and charities from Newfoundland to the United States. Priorities were God and her family. She was a very hard worker and made 19 trips to St. Anne de Beaupré, Que. This was always the highlight of her year. She is survived by sons, Kevin (Sandra), New Minas; Gerard (Anne), Roman Valley; daughters, Shirley (Stephen) Carter, New Orleans; Ellen (Bernard) Long, Salmon River Lake; son-in-law, Ronnie Wood, Auld's Cove; sister, Rita Stewart, New Glasgow; brother, Greg Walsh, New Glasgow; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom; daughter, Bernadette Wood, and an infant daughter; brothers, Dan, Lewis, and Alex; sister, Christina.
Mary will rest at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough, with visitation 7-9 p.m. this evening and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 10. The Rosary will be recited on these nights at 8:45 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church with Father Allan MacPhie and Father Jonathan Nweke officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to Ladies Auxiliary of Guysborough Memorial Hospital or a charity of choice.
