Obituary
Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of Gregory Joseph Cormier, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Greg was a wonderful and loving husband to Cedella (Nicholson), his wife and soul mate of 39 years; a devoted and caring father to his children, Kari (Shannon) and Todd; a proud 'papa' to his five adoring grandchildren; a true friend to the many people that his life has touched along the way, and a valuable asset to the company he so enjoyed working with, CGC Canada. Greg was born in New Waterford and was predeceased by his parents, Anna Marie Cormier (MacKinnon) and Joseph Adrian Cormier. He was fortunate to have played basketball with his brothers, Lowell and Kenny, in high school and was a member of the 1968 Mount Carmel Mounties Provincial Championship basketball team. Greg graduated from Mount Carmel and went on to complete the Chemical Technology program at the Eastern Institute of Technology. Greg and Cedella moved to West Bay in 1972 where he raised his family, supported his community, made lifelong friends and took pride in his work at Louisiana Pacific where he served as Technical Director. He then worked for USG as Quality Control Manager, a job that eventually led to his current position with CGC as Quality Control Manager for Western Canada stationed in Calgary, Alta. Greg was loved by many friends, family and colleagues. His honesty, integrity, family and friendships meant everything to him. He always saw the glass as 'half full' with his positive outlook on life. He was a talented carpenter and mechanic, and could astound you with his knowledge of trivia. He was a person who enjoyed many simple things in life such as a good golf game and an exciting car race. Greg is survived by his wife, Cedella, Calgary, Alta.; his daughter, Kari Shannon and his son-in-law Jason Shannon, Fall River; his son, Todd Cormier and his daughter-in-law Debbie Jamieson, West Bay; his grandchildren, Shelby and Daniel Cormier, Sarah, Julia and Gregory Shannon; his brothers, Lowell Cormier, New Waterford, and Kenny Cormier, Sydney, and their families; his sister, Isabell McColl and her family, Nanaimo, B.C.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. From the very beginning of our family, Greg was a safety net of courage, character and confidence that supports us still and will carry us through our loss. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury on Friday, March 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Greg's life will be held in St. Margaret's Parish in West Bay Road on Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m., Father Allan McPhie officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com 'May the winds of love blow gently, and whisper so you can hear, we all love and miss you dearly, and will forever hold you near'.
