Dingle, Dorothy May - Age 89 of Port Hawkesbury. Passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Dorothy was born on May 21st, 1929 in Spanish Ship Bay, Guysborough Co. and at the age of 11 moved to Port Hawkesbury. She was a daughter of the late Capt. John and Bridie (Langille) Dingle.
Dorothy worked for many years with Maritime Tel & Tel and then for Canadian Tire until her retirement. Dorothy was an active member of St. Mark’s United Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years, was Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. She served as church elder and worked on different committees including fund raising events. Dorothy played an active role on the Canadian Diabetes Association for many years. She also spent many years supporting the Canadian Cancer Society. Dorothy took great care to recognize birthdays, graduations and family activities for the entire family. She treasured her many friends and so enjoyed the many visits from so many of them. Dorothy particularly enjoyed the morning church services that are put on at the nursing home. Special thanks to Dr. James Collins and the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. They go the extra mile to make sure the residents’ needs are met.
Surviving are brothers, Max (Jan), Nanaimo, BC; and Duncan, Kingshead; sister, Ruth Landers, Fredericton, NB; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Besides her parents Dorothy was predeceased by her twin brother, John who passed in 1990 and younger sister, Jean Pierce who passed in 2017.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held from St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury on Saturday, April 13th at 2 p.m. with Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. Family flowers only, please. Burial to follow in Southbrook Cemetery.
