Desmond, Deacon Everett Stanley, 66 of Upper Big Tracadie, Guysborough Co., went home to be with his loving Savior on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Deacon Everett was born and raised in Upper Big Tracadie.He was the son of the Late Deacon Joseph and Sophie (Borden) Desmond who were the source of his inspiration. Deacon Everett was employed with Hawker Siddeley, Canada initially which later became Trenton Car Works for over 32 years as a welder and in his retirement years faithfully served his community and surrounding communities through various volunteer work. He truly enjoyed serving his community and church. After becoming truly converted to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, He later labored as a dedicated member of Tracadie United Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 15 years until inflicted with sickness. He served his church in various capacities, namely, the President of the Men's Brotherhood for over 20 years, Church Choir, Trustee Board and Senior's Club. He also had a vested interest in the youth of the church and was truly concerned with their spiritual growth. Deacon Everett was actively involved in many local and provincial organizations that benefited the well being of all people. His involvement saw him receive many accolades which he was very humble to receive. Of special mention was his recognition as an "Unsung Hero" in 2012 by the African Nova Scotian Affairs and his Service of Commitment and Dedication at Tracadie United Baptist Church in March 2013. Deacon Everett leaves to mourn, his loving and supportive wife: Mary (Reddick), Upper Big Tracadie; step-sons, James (Glenda), Sydney; William (Michelle), Lower Sackville; step-daughter, Maryam, Springhill; grandchildren, Whitney, Jon, Terrell and Cassius, sister, Mary, Halifax; brothers, Joseph (Dolly), Sydney; Francis (Christa), Oromocto, NB; nephew, Courtney, Halifax and many other nieces and nephews; godson, Tristen, Halifax. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Sophie; sisters, Marjorie and Marion; brothers, Charles, Robert, David and Benjamin; and nephew, Robert. Deacon Everett's body will be resting in Tracadie United Baptist Church on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, Tracadie United Baptist Church with Rev. Emmanuel Mutale officiating, assisted by Deacon Alonzo Reddick. Burial will be in Sunnyview Cemetery. Family flowers, only by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Awakening Souls or Tracadie United Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
