DAVID, Wilfred Joseph — 74, Durrells Island, Guysborough Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Wilfred Joseph David of Durrells Island, Guysborough Co. Wilfred passed away suddenly in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, on the morning of Thursday, May 20, 2010. Born November 8, 1935, in Port Felix, he was a son of the late Elizabeth David.
Wilfred was a devoted husband, father and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family gatherings; BBQs and being outside with his dog Buster were some of his greatest loves. Wilfred was a devoted member of Star of the Sea Parish, Canso. He was employed as foremen at HB Nickersons (Canso Sea Freeze), and Manager for Bay Vista Lodge and Cabins, Shediac, N.B. and sailed with Canadian Hydrographic Services. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elise (George); sons, Martin (Kimberly), Ontario; Tony (Helen), Hazel Hill; daughter, Carolyn (Richard) Hamer, Dartmouth and Aunt Rita, widow of William; grandchildren, Rebecca, Daniel, Tony, Marie, Kyle, Brandon and Britni; brothers, Fred (Georgina), Pictou; Reginald, Port Felix; Duncan, Truro and sisters, Lillian Pace, Ecum Secum and Sandra (Edward) Burtch, Dartmouth and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Nelson. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made in Wilfred's memory to Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso.
