FITZGERALD, James Austin- Age 86, Lower Sackville/Canso passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017, in the Sagewood Long Term Care Facility, Lower Sackville. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Howard and Rebecca (O’Hearn) Fitzgerald. James was a seaman and worked on the lake boats for many years. He was a former member of Star of the Sea Parish, Canso. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Marion Swaine and Mary Grandy; brother, George. The family would like to thank the staff of Sagewood for their wonderful and exceptional care of James while he was a resident. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be 1 p.m. Monday from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Star of the Sea Parish Cemetery Fund, Canso. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso.
