MacCalder, Alexander Donald "Sandy" – Age 72, Orangedale, Inv Co. Passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Sandy was born in Inverness; he was a son of the late John D. and Alexis (Ferguson) MacCalder.
Sandy retired from the Department of Transportation where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the former Orangedale Presbyterian Church and Presbytery and a former member of the Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his step-mother, Christena (MacKinnon) MacCalder, Orangedale; sons, John Glenn, Lower Sackville; Alan, Sackville; sister, Margie Belle (Kent) Holliday, Scarborough; brothers, Gussie (Donna MacKinnon), Lexington; Ian (Kathy), Orangedale and Dale, Vancouver; precious grandsons, Keagan and Brendan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Brenda (Dulenty), bother, Frank and sister, Ena MacIver.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 6, from 6 – 8 p.m., and Wednesday, December 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 8 in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial in Gillis Cove Cemetery.
Donations may be made in memory of Sandy to Canadian Diabetes Association or Gillis Cove Cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
