RICHARD, Joseph Georges - Age 83 of Canso. Died peacefully at Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Born in Moncton, NB he was the second son of Exelda and Edgar Richard. He is survived by his wife, June (Bushell) Jarvis; daughters, Theresa Crane (Thomas Kavanaugh), Rosella LaRoche (Gilles), and Nancy Barrow (Lloyd); sons, Thomas (Alexandra Willson) and Joseph (Caroline Day); sisters, Connie LaRoux, Montreal; Rosella Boudreau, Moncton; and Geraldine Lavigne, Saint John; former sister-in-law, Marie Theresa Porier, Moncton; brothers, Roger, Sussex; and Robert, Moncton; and several nieces and nephews. To his eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren he was known as "Papa" and dearly loved. Also surviving are his step-daughters, Paula (Jarvis) Fredericks (Michael) and Kimberly Jarvis (Hector Wentzell) and their sons and grandsons. Joe was predeceased by his first wife, Nora Hanlon; brother, Edward and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Joe served for thirty-four years in the Canadian Air Force as an Air Frame Technician. He had postings in Canada and Germany. He loved all music and especially enjoyed and admired the talented, self-taught musicians in the Canso area. He was a proficient swimmer, diver, skater and downhill skier. Where ever he lived he took great pleasure in coaching young people. After retirement Joe and Nora lived in her home town of Canso, where they were greatly loved and respected. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.in DennisHaverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Requiem mass will be celebrated by Father Dan MacDonald in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso at 11: a.m., Thursday, September 1, followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
