MacDonald, William "Billy" Arthur
December 27, 1949 - April 11, 2016
William "Billy" Arthur MacDonald of Brook Village, Inverness County, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the age of 66.
Billy was born in Cheticamp to the late William P. and Marie Edna (Delaney) MacDonald. He has left to mourn his wife of 46 years, Mary Catherine (MacLeod), his daughters, Margie (Richard) Rouse, River Denys; Shelly (Eddie) Nock, Osgoode, ON; Lisa (Shawn) Harrison, Nevada Valley; Joanne (Bernard) Stewart, Brook Village; his grandchildren: Mitchell, Blake, Zachery, Desmond, Thomas, Marissa, Mackenzie, Connor, Matthew (Drew), Brandon, Morgan, Cody, Jordon, Travis, Michelle, Tyler and Kyle and great-grandson, Mason. He also leaves to mourn brothers, Gordon (Barb), Whycocomagh; Bernie (Patricia) Churchview; sisters, Marie (Jackie) MacInnis, East Skye Glen; Marianne (Francis) MacLean, Churchview; sister-in-law, Juanita MacDonald, Churchview; and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Joseph; sister, Josephine (Ferguson); brother-in-law Donald Ferguson, father-in-law, Jack MacLeod, mother-in-law, Sadie (MacNeil) MacLeod.
After completing school in Whycocomagh, Billy moved to Toronto, married Mary Catherine and started his working career with Pepsi. After living in Toronto for a few years the family moved back to Cape Breton. He worked for "Zutphen Brothers Construction" of Port Hood for over 20 years and finished off his working career at G.M. MacDonald Welding Ltd. in Whycocomagh.
Billy had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Other hobbies included re-building older tractors and automobiles, building and racing stockcars and wood working, especially clock building. His crossword, cribbage and sudoku puzzle skills were also impressive. He was a skilled mechanic and was often called upon to do repairs and was always willing to lend a helping hand; never expecting anything in return. You could say that he was a "jack of all trades and a master of many" as there wasn’t too much he couldn’t build or repair. Many a person considered him to be "a genius", but being the modest man he was, he would be happy just to be remembered as a good Cape Bretoner.
We are all very grateful to have had you in our lives...a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, papa, great-grandfather and friend. We love and miss you...you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, April 17th, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 18th, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Brook Village, with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
