MacDonald, Johnena "Jean" Christie (Calder) - Age 95, Estmere, Victoria Co. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Johnena Christie "Jean" MacDonald. Jean passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Jean was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary (Campbell) Calder of Malagawatch. Jean is survived by her twin sons, Charles (Sadie), Ottawa Brook; Hugh (Trish), Malagawatch; daughters, Arlene (Don) MacLellan, Grande Prairie; Alberta and Sally (Ritchie) Ellis, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Gordon (Cathy) MacDonald; Peter (Erin) MacLellan; Ann (Colby) Longmate; twin granddaughters, Alicia (Joel) MacDonald and Julie (Bernard) MacDonald; Kristan (Chris) Ellis-MacDonald, and Matthew (Melissa) Ellis; great-grandchildren, Molly and Kara MacLellan and her name sake, Calder MacNeil. Extended family, Heather, Michael, Maggie, John Michael and Blake; sister’s-in-law, Alice Edwards and Isabel MacDonald along with many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Gordon "Tupper" MacDonald; sisters, Isabel, Alice and Georgie Calder; sister’s-in-law, Anna Fortunato, Catherine MacDonald; brother-in-law, Murdock MacDonald. Mom was blessed with a healthy life independently living in her own home to the age of 94, grateful for the support of her loyal neighbours and friends. Mom was a lady of strong faith, compassion, humour and style. She impressed us all with her sharp memory. She enjoyed daily bible reading, word search, current events, family history and visiting with her good friends. She was a member of Little Narrows Presbyterian Church and a life time member of the Women’s Missionary Society. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Carlyle Chow for his friendship and guidance over the years. Thank you to Homecare and Alderwood Guest Home. A celebration of mom’s life will be held today (Saturday), February 21 in Little Narrows Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. With visitation prior to the service from 12 - 2 p.m. with Reverend’s Andrew MacDonald and Jean MacAulay officiating. Family interment at Estmere Cemetery. Donations may be made to Estmere Cemetery Society, Victoria County Hospice or charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
