GRADY, Mabel Elizabeth – 102. In sorrow and with a great sense of loss, we the family announce the peaceful passing of Mabel, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, formerly of Port Shoreham, Guysborough Co., she was a resident of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
Born in St. Francis Harbour on April 21, 1911, she was a daughter of the late James and Sadie (Leet) Porper. Mabel was a member of the former Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Hadleyville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her daughter, Marie (Tim), Waverley; sons, Earl, Leland (Marie), both of New Glasgow; Arnold (Beverly), St. Francis Harbour; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Lewis Grady; daughter, Viola "Betty" (Bill) Miller; brothers, Gordon and Elmer; sister, Viola.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and also the Guysborough Homemakers for their wonderful care over the years.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 21 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. James Anglican Church, Middle Melford with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Hadleyville. Memorial donations in Mabel’s memory may be made to Holy Trinity Cemetery Fund, Hadleyville, St. James Anglican Church, Middle Melford or to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.
