HADLEY, Hortense Elizabeth - 86, It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, surrounded by her family. Born in Mulgrave on July 5, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Marcella (Leet) Moore. Hortense was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave and a 47 year member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was a person with great faith and enjoyed singing in the church choir, often doing solos. She devoted her life to her husband and family raising ten children through the good times and hard times. She was very proud of her family and was known as its heart and soul who made the best of situations through song, dance and prayer. Her love of music always put her in a special, happy, upbeat mood. She loved to yodel and to dance, especially with her eight sons either at a celebration or in the kitchen. She will be fondly remembered for her love of life. She enjoyed storytelling, a competitive card game, family visits and a good laugh. She loved to swim and did so into her eighties. She could often be found out for a walk with her grandchildren, picking berries, sitting on the step with her husband Harry or cheering for her favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays. She is survived by daughters, Millie MacKinnon and Gwen (Ernest) Peebles; sons, Tom (Lorraine), Jim (Mary), Ralph (Beryl), Stephen (Lana), Darrell (Debbie), Michael (Valerie) all of Mulgrave; Eric (Liz), of Truro and Brad (Paula) of Halifax; sisters, Isabelle MacEachern, Cape George; Cecelia Bouchie, R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish; 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Harry; sisters, Alice Moore, Grace Tramble; brother, Joseph; her twin sister, Mildred in infancy and granddaughter, Nicole Peebles. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., Friday, March 28th at Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
