MICHAUD, John Robert "Bob" – 93, Port Hawkesbury. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Robert "Bob" Michaud on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in the St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Center, Arichat, surrounded by his family. Born in Sherbrooke on November, 30 1920, he was a son of the late James and Mariah (Rudolph) Michaud. John was a veteran of WWII having served overseas in the British Isles and Continental Europe, serving with the 3rd Mechanical Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was a member of the Overseas War Veteran’s Association, Br. 1 Pictou. Also a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 43 Port Hawkesbury and former member of Br. 59 in Antigonish and Br. 37 in Mulgrave. An honorary member of the Evergreen Club, Port Hawkesbury. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Port Hawkesbury. He loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories of his travels to Belgium and Ireland during the war. In his early years he loved working in his vegetable garden. He was a fan of music, as well as watching his favorite hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens. He enjoyed attending Granville Green Concerts and was retired from Breton Industrial Marine, Point Tupper where he was known as "Bob the Painter". He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Elsie (Malcolm), Port Hawkesbury; children, Robert (Elizabeth), Antigonish; Jean (Mike) McCarthy, Alberta; Giselle (Lennie) Carr, Cape Jack; Craig (Wendy), Bedford; grandchildren, Bobby, Karen, Amy, Melanie, Wyatt, Jonathan, Jake, Megan, Devin, Paige and Lauren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Duggan, Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Teresa MacDonald, Mary MacDougall, both of Antigonish; Christena Sharpe, Reserve Mines, Catherine (Lauchie) Armstrong, Heatherton; Emily, Toronto; Liz (John), Sr. Margaret, all of Kingston Ont. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna (Duggan); 2 infant sons; sisters, Mary, Katherine and Agnes; brothers, David and Charles Austin. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with vigil service at 6 p.m. and Legion service at 7 p.m. Thursday all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in St. Lawrence Parish Cemetery, Mulgrave at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Center, Arichat.
