LUMSDEN, Clyde Edmund – 73, Canso, lost his ongoing, courageous battle with heart disease on Thursday, March 22, 2012 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Canso, he was the son of the late Captain Belmont and Edith (Roberts) Lumsden. Clyde was a cornerstone and dedicated member of Canso United Baptist Church and the Fisherman’s Association. Clyde was passionate about life on the sea, starting at age 13 on his own. His honesty and integrity earned him the upmost respect from the fishing community and community at large. Clyde was a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorraine (Richardson); son, "Junior" (Jean), Halifax; daughter, Leah Anne (Dean) Billard, Sydney; grandchildren, Chaunc, Kelsey, Brooke, Alicia and his little buddy, Dalton; brother, Belmont (Brenda), Ont; Bruce (Audrey), Kingston; Jerry (Maxine), Canso; sisters, Linda (John) Armsworthy, Merigomish; Ruth (Tommy) Hanlon, Canso; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Edison, sister, Winnifred. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Eastern Memorial Hospital and St. Martha’s Hospital. Special thanks to Lena MacDonald at the Cardiac Unit in Antigonish. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Saturday, March 24, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral Service will be 2p.m. Sunday, March 25, from Canso United Baptist Church, with Rev. David and Betty Wheeler officiating. Burial in Fourth Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canso United Baptist Church, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
