MacCALDER, Ivan Roger - 65, River Denys. It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Ivan on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late Donald and Nellie (MacDonald) MacCalder. During his working years, Ivan lived in Halifax and Dartmouth while working as a pipefitter at the Halifax Dockyards. In 1997, Ivan retired and returned to River Denys to live in the family home and in time would become the primary caregiver for his aging parents. He was actively involved in his community. He was a member of the Valley Mills Fire Department Auxiliary. Ivan was a caring individual with a kind and generous heart. He is survived by brothers, Wallace, Malagawatch; Don (Ellen), Calgary, AB; Allan (Doreen), Donnelly, AB and several nieces and nephews. Ivan was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Louise in infancy and a nephew, Alexander Wallace. At Ivan’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. The body has been cremated. The internment of Ivan’s ashes will take place 2 p.m Thursday, November 24 in Fir Grove Cemetery River Denys. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Fir Grove Cemetery.
