MacDonald, Edward Murdock "Ed" – 75. Well-known municipal politician and resident of Queensville, Inverness County, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with family in attendance. Born in Sugar Camp, Inverness County, he was a son of the late John E. and Murdena (MacLeod) MacDonald.
Ed served the offices of Warden, Deputy-Warden, Councillor and committees for the Municipality of the County of Inverness during the past thirty years, and received a UNSM Long Service Award in 2008. He was a member and an executive member of numerous committees and community groups such as the Historical Society, Community Development and Figure Skating. Ed continued his education and achievements throughout his life including a high school certificate, provincial and interprovincial carpentry certification and various municipal governance modules. In addition to operating businesses for Ed’s Building & Renovations, and Ed’s Horse Rides, he worked as a project manager and carpenter on construction jobs. He was also a construction supervisor for the Nova Scotia Housing Commission.
Ed had strong devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Mary Jess MacKinnon; son, Dwayne; daughters, Chrissi Lynch, Murlana Wadden; son-in-law, James Wadden; granddaughters, Erica, Jaynie, Breagh; sister, Elizabeth MacIntyre; brother, Michael MacInnis; godchild, Bradley MacKinnon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Allena Jean; sisters, Jeannie, Mary A., Charlotte and Joyce; brothers, John, Malcolm, Alex (Sugar Camp) and Allan Proctor.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-9 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial in St. David’s Cemetery, Port Hastings at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s memory to The Ed. MacDonald Student Scholarship for Leadership and Innovation in Community Development; or a charity of choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
