Hood, William Andrew “Bill”, 65- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Andrew Hood of Port Hawkesbury, formerly of Georges River on Saturday, January 1st, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Joseph Alexander and Mary Catherine (Robinson) Hood.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years Vida (Mouland) Hood, daughters, Karen (Bruce) MacKinnon, Port Hawkesbury; Krista (Ryan) Hicks, Kitchener, ON; his precious granddaughter, Iris Nettie Hicks, sisters; Dorothy (Daniel) O’Handley, Georges River; Joan Lewis, Halifax; Mary Lou (Darryl) Jessome, Georges River; Uncle Mullins Hood, Georges River; Aunt Aeris MacMillan, North Sydney; Mother-in-law Virtue Mouland, South Bar, Sister-in-law Joan Mouland, South Bar, several nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Yetman Mouland; brother in-laws, Bill Lewis and Les Mouland, aunts and uncles.
William “Bill” was employed as a millwright for 30 years with Stora Port Hawkesbury where he had many friends. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Church and a volunteer for the Relay for Life. He was a former member of the Strait Pirates Oldtimer Hockey Club and the local skating club, where he made many fond memories. He enjoyed his Pirates hockey game on Friday nights, cheering for the Leafs, Harness racing, traveling with his wife, summers in Georges River and special times with family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, January 4th at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury at 11 am on Wednesday, January 5th with Rev. Bob Lockhart officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mark’s United Church General Fund or the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com.
