MacDONALD, Jeanette — 76, Long Point, Inverness Co. It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our mother, Jeanette MacDonald, of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home and formerly of Long Point. Her passing occurred at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Born in, Judique, March 14, 1934, she was the eldest child of the late Sandy and Christy MacDonald. After marrying Allan MacDonald from Centennial, they made their initial home in Hamilton, Ontario, retiring to Long Point in 1983. Although Jeanette was faced with the challenge of mental illness that was often misunderstood; and the heartache of losing her son, she persevered with her Catholic faith and the love and support of family, friends and professionals. Jeanette was a loving wife and mother who had a deep passion for Celtic music, especially the piano and the tunes of the late John Morris Rankin. Over the years she and her late husband, Allan, enjoyed many concerts, dances and ceilidhs and Jeanette always looked forward to the opening of lobster season. Jeanette is survived by her two daughters, Bonita (Ed), Eastern Passage; Donna (Ray), Thorburn and her much loved grandson, James Allan. Also surviving are her sisters, Florence (late Don) MacMillan, Windsor Ont.; Peggy (late Pinky) Simpson, Calgary; Francie (Greg) Slater, Whitby Ont.; and brother Roddie (Claire), Port Hawkesbury; and many nieces and nephews and uncle Vincent MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home and formerly of Judique. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her dedicated and loving husband of fifty years, Allan and son Barry. Sincere gratitude goes to Port Hood Home Care, Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, and St. Martha's Regional Hospital Staff especially the Intensive Care Unit who provided Jeanette with dedicated, professional and loving care and to her friends who continued to visit over the years while a resident of the nursing home. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Judique with Father Allan MacMillan and Father Andrew Gillies concelebrating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
