LANDRY, Raymond Honoré — 94, Port Hawkesbury, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 11, 2010, in St. Anne's Nursing Home, Arichat. Born June 20, 1915, in Sainte Claire, Que., he was a son of the late Amédée and Gratia (Blanchette) Landry.
He moved to Smooth Rock Falls, Ont. in 1929 and later to Port Hawkesbury in 1961 for work at Stora as electrical supervisor until his retirement in 1981. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (1941-1945) ending his career as a Flying Officer doing coastal patrol on both coasts and along the St. Lawrence River. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branches No. 305 (SRF) and No. 43 (PH), the Knights of Columbus, Evergreen Senior Citizens Club, the Lions Club, and Strait Richmond Hospital Senior Advisory Committee. He volunteered with the R.O.C. Centre and earlier in Ontario with the Salvation Army, volunteer fire department and minor hockey. Surviving are daughter, Viviane (Sandy) Wright, Dundee; son, Norman (Alice) Landry, Port Hawkesbury; sister, Cecile Brown, Pembroke, Ont; grandchildren, Tony (Denise), Geoff (Jill), Sarah (Jonas), Terry (Elizabeth), Michael, Jennifer (Bill); great-grandchildren, Kris, Abby, Mackenzie, Bruce, Charlotte, and Oliver. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife of 53 years, Jeanne (Lemieux); 11 brothers; two sisters and grandson, Stephen (in infancy).
Visitation will be Friday, April 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with vigil service at 2 p.m. and a Legion service at 7 p.m., in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Interment at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations in memory of Raymond may be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation, Cardiology Research, or Sainte Anne Community & Nursing Care Centre, Arichat.
