HENDERSON (Grover), Emma Victoria - 93, of Port Hawkesbury, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, with her family by her side in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Born in Cole Harbour, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (George) Grover. Mom loved to cook and spent her working years cooking in lumber camps and construction sites. Mom and Dad moved to Port Hawkesbury in 1960 to work at a boarding house when gulf oil and atomic energy plans were being built. Her greatest joy was her grandsons and their families. She loved it when they came to visit. Her favourite pastime was knitting and reading and she loved card plays and bingo. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Steve) Reynolds, Port Hawkesbury; grandsons, Robert (Tara) Cass, Port Hawkesbury; Wayne (Arlene) Cass, Antigonish; Kenneth (Lisa) Cass, Halifax; Jody (Amanda) Cass, Port Hawkesbury; step grandchildren, Steven Jr. (Kara) Reynolds, Lloydminster, Alta.; Stephanie (Roy) Reynolds, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Katrina, Christopher, Brent, Emma-Jean, Garett, Lauren, Mickayla; step great-grandchildren, Richard, Jerry, Elizabeth, Edwin, Jeremiah; sisters-in-law, Bertha Grover, Canso; Vera Grover, Boylston; special friends, Sheila Burns and Rollie Ryan; several nieces and nephews. Emma was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur; brothers, Sterling, Tom, Clint, Bill, and Leonard; sister, Laura; granddaughter-in-law, Cathy Cass; special friend, Doods Ryan.
Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury and from noon on Saturday until time of funeral at 2 p.m. in New Harbour United Church, Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the New Harbour Cemetery Improvement Assocaition or New Harbour United Church.
