RYTER, Mary – Age 91, Antigonish and formerly of Halfway Cove, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born on December 2, 1927, in Yellow Marsh, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Annie (Casey) DeRabbie. Mary worked for many years in Halifax at Globe Laundry, VG Hospital and Kings College, Dartmouth Free Press and then moved her family back to Halfway Cove. She was involved with the Altar Guild of Emmanuel Church, Dartmouth and was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Halfway Cove. She enjoyed embroidery, baking and she belonged to the Garden Club in Guysborough. She was a great storyteller and enjoyed a good game of 45’s but "no cheating!" Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Les; children, Alice (Jim), James, Stephen (Barbara), Debbie (Ron), William (Cecil), Brian, Kevin and Dale (Alanna); 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; beloved grand dog, Findley; sisters, Rita "Sinnie", Betty; brother, Donnie (Lori); special cousin, Kaye MacPherson who was compassionate and always there for mom; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by brothers, William and John DeRabbie. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors and the Palliative Care team of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for all their kindness and support. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from St. James Anglican Church, Halfway Cove with Rev. Susan Slater officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial in Queensport Fire Hall. Memorial donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. James Cemetery Fund.
