Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Florence Katherine "Florrie" Ferguson, age 88, of Whycocomagh on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Richmond Villa, St. Peters. Born in Kewstoke, Inverness County on September 27, 1929, Florrie was a daughter of the late William and Catherine (MacLean) Nock. Mom was a loving wife, a caring mother, a compassionate and giving grandmother, and a dear friend. As the second oldest sibling in a very large family, she developed a strong work ethic at a young age, carrying it with her throughout her entire life as she cared for her family and served her community. She was a member of Stewart United Church and a lifetime member of the UCW. She was also a member of the Bayview Senior Citizens’ Club and a proud Progressive Conservative. She was devoted to and lovingly cared for her husband, Peter, throughout their 55 years of marriage. When Peter’s family or anyone else would visit, she could be found in her kitchen happily filling everyone with delicious food and great stories. She was a wonderful cook and baker and realized food brought people together. Perhaps that's why she enjoyed the time she worked at Vi's Restaurant and all those Sunday dinners with her family. Florrie had a wide range of interests: Country and Celtic music, her Montreal Canadiens, her TV shows, playing Auction, 45’s and bingo, growing flowers and feeding the birds. She took great pride in the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and loved going on family excursions with them. Florrie is survived by and will be dearly missed by her children, Sandra (Kevin) Gillis, Skye Glen; George (Mary Beth), Whycocomagh; and Murdo (Wilma), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Meghan (Jill), Adam (Nicole), Drew, Cassie, Nicole and Lauren; great-grandson, Alec. She is also survived by her brothers, Billy and Winston (Jean); sisters, Dena, Emily (Morrison), Kay (Dan N.) and sister-in-law, Phyllis (DJ) Ferguson as well as numerous treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Alex in 2012; sisters, Peggy Pearo, Irene MacPherson, Shirley Rouse; brothers, Jackie Nock and Sandy Nock; sisters-in-law, Tena Nock and Shirley Nock; brothers-in-law, Malcolm MacPherson, D.H. MacKinnon, Sam Pearo and Allie Rouse. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to all those who cared for her: Florrie’s doctors, the special "Newfoundland Ladies" (particularly Dulcie Taylor) and for the last seven years, the outstanding caregivers at Richmond Villa. Visitation will be held in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh on Tuesday, June 5th from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh on Wednesday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
