Kenzie Jones September 30, 1939 – May 15, 2018 Daniel MacKenzie "Kenzie" Jones - Age 78 years of Port Hawkesbury, husband of Marilyn (Ferguson) Jones, died unexpectedly in the QEII, Infirmary Site on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Kenzie was born in Glace Bay to the late George and Flora (MacDonald) Jones. Educated as an accountant, he worked at the Heavy Water sites in Glace Bay and Port Hawkesbury. Remaining in Port Hawkesbury he worked for Canada Post. For many years he was the owner /operator of Mac Puffin Motel and Mac Kenzie Inn, Port Hastings as well as many Mac Puffin Gift Shops throughout Nova Scotia. After retirement, Kenzie and Marilyn wintered in Florida. There his energy, kindness, and compassion for those less fortunate took him on 5 mission trips to the slums of the Dominican Republic. Recently his energy was devoted to an organization of people of many faiths (F.A.S.T.) who speak to government agencies on behalf of the underprivileged. Those who knew Kenzie, knew he didn’t live life from the sidelines. Whether on the elliplical machine at the Y, or digging latrines in the Dominican Republic, he was always fully in the game. Still always finding time to keep his vehicles washed and waxed. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughter, Rebecca, New Glasgow; son, Jay, Vancouver; brother, George, Baden, Ont.; sister, Karen Byers, Great Village; brother-in-law, Brian Ferguson, Glace Bay; along with several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday,May 20 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will held on Monday, May 21 at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Port Hawkesbury with Rev. Susan Slater officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private family interment at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Kenzie to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Port Hawkesbury Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
