Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
PELLY, Stephen Roy- Age 90, Sunnyville, Guysborough Co, November 23, 1926 – July 10, 2017. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one, Stephen. He passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2017, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Stephen, the son of the late William and Hattie (Clyke) Pelly was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also predeceased by his son, Lawrence; daughters, Linda and Donalda; step-grandson, Sterling; as well as 20 brothers and sisters.
Stephen is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Bessie (Clyke) Pelly, Sunnyville; sixteen children, Gladys (Normand) Pigeon; Regina Johnson; Gerald (Carole); Barbara; Jerome (Verna); Henry (Beverley); Merle (Connie); Floyd (Beverley); Gary (Rita); Peter; Robert (Elizabeth); Nancy (Terry) Dorrington; Darren (Lisa); Colleen (Colynda); Michelle (Danny) Dorrington; and Angel (Curtis) Jordan; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Stephen worked very hard over the years to support his family, as a labourer with Nova Scotia Power, MacKeen’s Sawmill and the Sunnyville Wood Crafters. He most enjoyed his Sunday dinners with his family and always looked forward to special occasions and holiday get togethers. Stephen loved driving with his companion, Shiver, exploring back roads, looking for treasures, yard sales and counting wildlife along the way. When he wasn’t out and about you could find him "putting around in his buildings". "Grandfather" to all of us (children and wife included), made sure his girls had gas money or a toonie for coffee. Grandfather will be sorely missed and always remembered and loved.
The family of the late Stephen Pelly would like to thank Dr. Bell, Dr. Ranjini, Dr. Ali and Dr. Foley for all their care over the years as well as the nurses who provided exceptional care during his stay in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. To the Continuing Care Nurses, Maureen, Stephanie, Carmel and Vonda, we thank you for your compassionate care. Thanks to the Nursing staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
Viewing will be held Thursday, July 13, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. also in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough.
