Alexander MacInnis "INNIS" Freeman Inverness January 17, 1935 - April 4, 2017 After a lengthy illness, Innis passed away at home with Alice, his wife of 58 years, at his side. Innis was predeceased by his parents, Rupert and Hannah (MacInnis) Freeman, as well as his only sibling, Frank (Babe) and Frank’s daughter Stacey (Freeman) Crowell. Innis is survived by his wife Alice, his children - Scott, Lesa, Loralie, Leslie and Allison, nine grandchildren, and a grand nephew, Stacey's son Isaac. In 1970, Innis took over his father’s drug store in Inverness and operated it for the next 40 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Matthews United Church, Inverness, and a fierce community person. He served on the board of the Inverness Cottage Workshop (now Mill Road Social Enterprises) for 35 years, was a charter member of the Kinsmen, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a supporter of the Inverness Raceway. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and worked tirelessly at fundraising for families receiving treatment at the Shriner hospital in Montreal. For 25 years Innis was key to organizing fundraising in Inverness County for the Arthritis Society, and had the reward of seeing Inverness be the top county in the province in money raised. He was involved in fundraising for the Inverness Arena, the Inverness Hospital Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, the Inverness Development Association, and the Red Cross. It is a long list - Innis always had a ticket to sell you! As a member of the local Capers Snowmobile Club, Innis loved snowmobiling, especially going on ungroomed trails and sometimes getting himself into trouble! He was the consummate visitor who knew everyone, had a story to tell, and enjoyed the TEA and cookies. Meeting people once, he remembered them and called them by name. Innis leaves a large hole in our home and in our community. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place. Innis’ visitation will take place from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life that will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29 both in St. Matthew's United Church, Inverness with Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Matthew's Memorial Fund, Mill Road Social Enterprises, Central Inverness Palliative Care, or any charity of your choice.
