Ferguson, Annie Catherine - Age 93 of Port Hawkesbury. Died peacefully in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Annie was born in Princeville, Inverness Co., she was a daughter of the late Allan John and Jemima Donena (Cameron) MacQuarrie. Annie was most proud of her years working as a teacher, and a principal in the surrounding areas. Her fondest memories were of those days of teaching in Point Tupper and Port Hawkesbury, and the many students she had met along the way. She was also very proud of her Scottish heritage, and loved to hear a bit of Gaelic. Annie is survived by her grandchildren, Robin (Nathan), Ken (Claudia), Al (Danna) and her great–grandchildren, Ross, Ben, Eve, Libby, Nolan and Taylor; sister-in-law, Muriel Ferguson. She was predeceased by her husband, Alec Ferguson; son, Allison Ferguson; sisters, Margaret Annie Cruickshank, Julia Bell MacDonald, Minerva Perrin, Catherine Florence Ware, Barbara MacKinnon, and brother, George Allan MacQuarrie. The family would like to take this time to thank the terrific staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Annie. We are very appreciative to her wonderful friends at the nursing home, in particular, Joy, Sandy and Florence for always making her feel so special, and doing far more than your job required. Also a sincere thank you to Joyce Malcolm who was so incredibly kind to Annie, and ensured she had the best of care. It is a comfort knowing that she was so well looked after and comfortable in her final years. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3 from 3-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury. A graveside service will take place Friday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. in Grantville Cemetery with Nan Corrigan, D.M. officiating.
