Obituary
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
FISHER, Jean Elizabeth (MacMaster) – 83. Boylston, Guysborough Co., Nova Scotia. It is with sadness we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on November 6, 2015. Jean was born on December 21, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, to John (Jack) and Eleanor MacMaster.
Three years later, the family returned to Nova Scotia and made their home in Boylston. She attended schools in Boylston and Guysborough, and then moved to Halifax to complete her Grade 12 at Saint Patrick’s High School. After graduating, Jean started her lengthy employment at the Royal Bank of Canada. While in Halifax, she met and married Ken Fisher and they began their life together, welcoming daughter Ellen in 1956. Ken’s Army career took them to Fredericton, where Jean continued to work at the bank, retiring after 35 years of service. While there, Jean and Ken enjoyed many good years and lasting friendships with their colleagues, camping friends and fellow ski-doers.
Upon retirement, Jean, along with Ken, returned to the home she loved, Boylston. Jean had many interests. She was an avid bridge player; she enjoyed music, golf, curling, knitting, baking and the daily crossword puzzle. She could always be counted on to help solve a tricky clue. Jean loved entertaining and hosted many parties. She will be fondly remembered for her many dress-up costumed characters, especially "The Lady of the Lake". Jean was so proud of her family and was happiest spending time with them. She was a long time member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, an active member of the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer throughout the community.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Ellen (John) Cox, Hammonds Plains, NS, granddaughters, Jacqueline Cox, London, ON, and Katie (Michael) Fairweather, Halifax, NS, as well as great-granddaughter Rosetta Jean Fairweather. Jean also leaves behind sisters Marie MacMaster, Boylston and Virginia (George) Doucet, Halifax, brothers-in-law, Rupert (Joanne) Fisher, Donald (Cheryl) Fisher, and David (Ethel) Fisher all of Halifax, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Ken (1995), brother-in-law Keith, and sister-in-law, Bernetta.
Sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Guysborough Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during Jean’s illness.
