O'RAFFERTY, Dr. Edward Francis - 83, St. Peter's, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at home. Born in Arklow, County Wicklow, Ireland, January 11, 1923, he was a son of the late Felix O'Rafferty and Ann Fogarty.
He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, St. Peter's. He went to school at Castleknock College and went on to study medicine in the College of Surgeons where he subsequently qualified as a doctor. He practiced medicine in Ireland and England before immigrating to Canada in 1953. Initially he practiced medicine in St. Albans, an outport in Newfoundland, before going into Public Health in Saint John, N.B. After a stint in Public Health he returned to private practice as a G.P. in St. Peter's 36 years ago. St. Peter's became his true home and he was proud to serve the community for 24 years before retiring in 1994.
He is survived by daughters, Clodagh, Vancouver, B.C.; Ailish, Halifax; sons, Fergus, Dublin, Ireland; Emmet, Ireland and South Africa; Fiacre, Barcelona, Spain; son-in-law, John Swain, and granddaughter, Sinead, Halifax; sister, Marguerite O'Rafferty, Arklow, Ireland; brothers, Father Liam, Dublin, Ireland; Joe, Arklow, Ireland. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Phyllis (Roantree); daughter, Siobhan O'Rafferty Swain; sister, Eithne, and brother, Felix.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter's. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church with Father Everett McDow officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
