GROVER, Douglas Joseph "Doug" – 78, Upper Whitehead, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Friday, December 21, 2012, in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Upper Whitehead on March 28, 1934, he was a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Richardson) Grover. He was a fisherman from the age of 13, until he joined the army at 21. Doug served in the army from 1955 to 1958 as a Private in The Black Watch. Doug worked in 1963 at Rawlston Purina in Cooksville Ont. From 1964 to 1967 he worked at Ontario Steel in Milton, Ont. He moved home to return to fishing. He was also very skilled at building and repairing boats which he did after he gave up the fishing. He built boats in Dover and Charlos Cove until he retired in 1993/94. Doug was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, cutting firewood and camping. He enjoyed working on his old cars and trucks and was always willing to help others out with theirs. He could always be found tinkering at something. He also enjoyed Bluegrass music and spent many summers travelling the provinces and attending Bluegrass Festivals far and wide, never without his beloved wife Daisy by his side. Doug was predeceased by one child in infancy; daughter, Janice; grandson, Myles; brother, Clarence Richardson; sisters, Odessa Grover and Annamae Anderson. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife, Daisy (Parker) Grover, the love of his life, to whom he was happily married for 56 years, daughters, Juanita (Mike) Dort; Donna (Blair) Horne; Arlene (Dave) Bannister; Coleen (Darren) Wright; sons, Cecil Grover and Doug Grover; son-in-law, Rob (Marlaine) Myatt; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and his sister Leona (Rene) Leblanc. We would like to thank the Dr’s, nurses and staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital. Their kindness and generosity made this past month a little easier to get through. Visitation will be from 7-9pm Thursday, December 27 and 2-9pm Friday, December 28 in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral Mass will be 11am Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Felix, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
