GOOGOO, Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" – 71, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Antigonish Landing, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sara (Bernard) Young. Mary Kay was a woman of many talents. She was well known for her basket weaving, and owned and operated the Negemow Basket Shop with her husband for over 40 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah. She was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. Surviving are her children, John Angus; Sue Evans (Ray Evans); Cynthia Sark (George Sark); Stephen T. Googoo; Keith D. Googoo; Eleanor Googoo, all of Waycobah; sister, Jane Abram, Millbrook; granddaughters, Elaine, Kira, Cynthia, Asha, Jade and Sara, grandson, George, great-grandson, Andrew, godchild, Sylvia Googoo, sisters-in-law, Josephine Peck, Wagmatook; Caroline Marshall, Membertou, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Angus Andrew Googoo, sisters, Isabelle, Margaret, Alice, Helen, Clara, Eleanor, Tina, brothers, Tom and Morris. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday, October 13, in the family residence at 9221 Trans Canada Hwy 105, Waycobah. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday October 15, from Blessed Katerie Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah, with Father Robert McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements for Mary Kay are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh.
