We’koqma’q First Nation: It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden death of Janet M. Gould, who passed away peacefully at Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck, Nova Scotia on December 19, 2006. Janet was born on April 26th, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Martha Wilmot, and maternal mother Bridget Ann Bernard.
Janet was a member of the We’koqma’q First Nation and of the Holy Trinity Church. After her second bout with cancer, she managed to maintain the courage and strength to continue her fight. Before her illness, she enjoyed devoting her time volunteering in events for children and elders of the community. Janet always had time to listen and lend a helping hand to those who called upon her wisdom. She was a kind, gentle woman with a heart of gold and she will be sadly missed by all whose lives she had touched. Aside from her foster parents and maternal mother, she was predeceased by her husband, the late Bernard Gould, her foster brother, Noel J. Bernard, and her two granddaughters.
Janet was survived by her life partner of 18 years, James Sylliboy, sons and daughters, Bernice (Richard) Googoo ,We’koqma’q, Robert/Bobby (Linda) Gould ,We’koqma’q, Dennis (Delphine) Gould ,North Carolina, U.S.A and Marcia (Dale Fee) Gould, We’koqma’q, sisters, Beverly Bernard and Elizabeth (Winston) Patles, two aunts Georgina Wilmot & Regina Bernard both from Millbrook, foster brother, Peter Wilmot, foster sisters, Pearl Googoo & Wanda Phillips, ten grandchildren, Cassandra, Storm, Roman, Lucinda, Leon, Bernessa, Owen, Marissa, Ritchie & Robbi-Lynn, seven godchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews all from We’koqma’q.
Visitation will start at 4 p.m. on Tuesday December 26, at 8909 Trans Canada Highway We’koqma’q. The funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday December 28, 2006 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. A meal will follow at the community hall following the service with a solite to follow. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh.
