GILLIS, Neil Angus - 87, Troy, Inverness Co., passed away Monday, June 21, 2004, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Judique North, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late Sandy and Cecilia (MacDonald) Gillis.
Neil was a retired fisherman, iron worker and miner. He was a member of Stella Maris Parish, Creignish; Evergreen Senior Citizens Club, Port Hawkesbury. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the West Novies. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury.
Surviving are daughters, Carolyn Gillis, Troy; Linda (Ronnie) Graham, Edmonton, Alta.; sons, Dernie (Aneas), Creignish; Clarey and Christopher (Sharon Lamb), both of Windsor, Ont.; Brian (Leanne), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Duane, Bradley, Janna, Donnie, Neil, Jennifer, Jamey, Darcy and Sandy Gillis, Margaret and Katelyn Graham. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret MacMillan; son, Lewis Alexander 'Sandy'; infant son, Cedric; daughter-in-law, Margie; brothers, Alex, John David, Joe, Willie, Archie Peter, Angus R. 'Murph', Francis, Hughie; sisters, Margaret, Mary, Annie, Sister Evelyn CND; infant sister, Genevieve.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday with a Legion service at 7:30 p.m., both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Father Hughie D. MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Parish Cemetery, Judique.
Memorial donations in memory of Neil may be made to St. Andrew's Parish Cemetery or Canadian Cancer Society.
