Meagher, Margaret Evelyn "Marge" (MacDougall) – 97, Mulgrave, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully after a brief illness Sunday, July 31, 2011, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Ellen (Chisholm) and Ronald Alexander MacDougall. Following her father’s untimely death, she was raised by her aunt, Mary Belle and uncle Jim Kelly in St. Francis Harbour, Nova Scotia. She maintained close connection with her mother and siblings throughout her life. She worked in various positions in both Canada and United States and retired from the post office in Mulgrave. She was a dedicated and active member of St. Lawrence Parish, and the CWL. Mom married in 1944 and settled in Mulgrave where she and Dad proudly raised their large and gregarious family. Mom supported and encouraged us to always do our best, to help one another and our larger community. Mom was a strong matriarch who took great delight in her family. Through their examples, Mom and Dad instilled strong values in us and taught us the importance of education, commitment and above all the importance of family. We all have many fond memories of Mom camping, playing cards, knitting and entertaining large crowds of family and friends. Her hand knit wool socks and mittens warmed the hands and hearts of all those who were the lucky recipients. After her retirement, she and Dad travelled Canada and the USA, exploring and visiting their far flung family. They both tented into their mid 80’s and especially enjoyed Kejimkujik National Park. With the help of her family and other caregivers, Mom was able to stay in her beloved home overlooking the Strait of Canso until her sudden death. For this we are very grateful. She remains a guiding force in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grand children. She was predeceased by her husband, James, infant son, Harold Joseph, grandson, John Harvey, brothers, Dan and Fred, sisters, Muriel, Edna, Sister Mary Muriel and Catherine Kelly-Martin. She is survived by her children, Elaine (Gary) Rivers, Cottage Cove NS; Jim (Betty) Meagher, Colorado USA; Tom (Marie) Meagher, Sydney NS; Lorraine (Peter) Hope, South Brookfield NS; Monica (Michael) Murphy, Ont.; Gerard Meagher Ont.; Jacinta (Dan) Harvey, Berwick NS; Maurice (Susan) Meagher, Mulgrave, NS; Lucia (Donnie) MacIsaac Sydney NS.; grandchildren, Erin; Jeff (Kerry), Beth (Ben); Adelle (Zach), Jennifer (Sean), Kathleen (Jason), Brenna; Sean (Natalie), Stephen (Shannon); Ian (Gloria), Chris; Andrew, James; Jimmy, Kelly, Katie, Amanda, Steven; Donald, Maureen, Clare and Neil; great-grandchildren, William, Cassie, Sebastian, Amelia, Nadia and Liliana; foster brother, James MacKinnon; sisters-in-law, Annie Meagher and Theresa MacDonnell and long time friend and caregiver, Lenora Scott.
