George Gregory Gerrior
64, Johnstown, Cape Breton
It is with great sadness that we, the family of George, announce his passing Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
Born in Johnstown, C.B., he was the son of Mary Catherine (Campbell) Gerrior and the late Joseph Gerrior.
He was a lifelong, active member of Sacred Heart parish in Johnstown.
For 39 years, George worked as a professional driver for Seaboard Transport Group. Over the years on the road, his work gave him the opportunity to establish many friendships across Cape Breton Island. When he wasn’t driving, he took every opportunity to enjoy get-togethers with family, music and friends. He could often be found in the yard working at some of his favourite pastimes; landscaping or gardening. He took great pride in his home on the hill and loving family within. He’ll be remembered for the ease in which he smiled, his quiet and gentle way and his ability to say so much with so little.
George is survived by his wife, Mary Anita (Campbell) Gerrior; children, Yvette (Ashley) Bouchie, Greg and Andrea. He is also survived by his mother; four sisters, Patricia Mc Namara, Annie (Pius) White, Mary Josephine (Terry) Mc Namara, Jean (Blair) Mc Namara and his twin brother, Neil. He will be missed greatly by all his family including many nieces and nephews; and especially his two granddaughters, Madeleine Bouchie and Georgia Gerrior.
Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter’s, Saturday, April 30 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2 in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
