LIVINGSTONE, Helen Katherine - Orangedale, passed away in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on February 14, 2007. She was born August 22, 1924, in Gillis Cove to the late Annie Margaret (MacIver) and John Eli MacIver. She was married to the late David Laird Livingstone, who predeceased her in 1958, following a tragic bridge accident. She was left to raise six children on her own from ages six to 12 years. She was not only a mother and father to her children, but a true friend as well. She was so kind and sincere, all who knew her loved her and she always made sure no one left her home without a "cup of tea". She dearly loved her family and community. She was a member of Orangedale United Church and the UCW. Prior to her marriage, she taught school and when her family was grown, she became janitor of the Orangedale School until her retirement in 1985. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Margie (Randy) Murray, Dartmouth; sons, Billy (Maude), Orangedale; Glen, Port Hawkesbury; Bernie and Paul, both at home. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Lynn (Keith) Poole, Orangedale; John (Rocio) Murray, Dartmouth; Paula (Greg) Blascheck, Antigua; Michelle (Ryan) Doucette, Dartmouth; Don Murray, Dartmouth; Sandel (Ian) Smith, Bermuda; Jamie (Connie) Day, Halifax; Tammy (Frank) Bennett, Port Hawkesbury; Aimée Matthews, Halifax. Helen was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face, Wade Poole, Orangedale; Johnathon Carroll, Andrea Austin, Sami Murray, all of Dartmouth; Alexandra Blascheck, Antigua; Ben Doucette, Dartmouth; Chloe Smith, Bermuda; Jordan Day, Halifax; Cassandra and Patrick, Port Hawkesbury; Mitchell Matthews, Halifax. Helen is also survived by her dear brother, Gordon (Ena) MacIver, Gillis Cove. She will also be missed by her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and her little dog, "Shubie", who brought her great comfort at home. Helen was also predeceased by son, Jackie; daughter-in-law, Sandra; sisters, Margaret Delaney, Marion Wright, Florence Roberts; brother, William, and infant brother, Edward. Helen will be waked in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh, today from 2-9 p.m. Funeral will be Saturday, February 17 at 2 p.m. in Orangedale United Church with Rev. Janet Blois officiating. Burial will be in Gillis Cove Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Orangedale United Church or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. The family would like to thank the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home staff, Victoria County Memorial Hospital staff, home care workers, and our cousin, Ann MacLean, for all the excellent care given our dear mother.
