Harris, Alexander Donald "Al" - 77, Port Hawkesbury, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Alexander Eugene and Myrtle Florence (O’Hara) Harris MacDonnell. Al was a retired Senior Manager with the Nova Scotia Department of Development for the Strait of Canso region. He loved to play golf, write poetry and was an excellent soft ball pitcher. He is survived by his loving wife, of 53 years, Jean (MacIntyre), Port Hawkesbury; daughter, Shelley Harris (Michael Filipowich), Los Angeles, California; son, Alexander "Sandy" Harris (Jan Scott), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Zoe Harris, and Ripley Filipowich. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather, Danny MacDonnell. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. Donations in memory of Al may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and the SPCA.
