Horne, Peter Ernest – 97, Canso, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born in Little Dover, Guysborough County he was a son of the late James and Emma Jane (Snyder) Horne. He was an inshore fisherman; he also worked as seaman on the Great Lakes and was employed by the DOT. After retiring, he volunteered at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 46, Canso where he was an honorary member. He is survived by his children, Peter (Sherry), Ont.; Richard (Joan), Canso; Bernadette (William) Bowskill, Ont. and Lois (Terry) Dobson, B.C.; daughter-in-law Donna Horne, Canso; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Donald (Laurette) MacKenzie, Enfield and Terry Mackenzie, Port Hawkesbury. He was predeceased by his wife, Lena Daley, (Fox Island) and sons, Francis, James; daughter, Celesta Bremner; granddaughter, Lisa Bowskill and longtime companion, Georgina MacKenzie. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
