MURPHY (Avery), Mary Elizabeth "Betty" – Age 89, Larry’s River, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2016, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital with family by her side. Born in Larry’s River, she was the oldest daughter of the late Isaac and Charlotte Avery. Betty had resided in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Mom was never one to be swayed by obstacles. She obtained her driver’s license at age 57, so she could continue the 100 year old Murphy tradition of driving the mail. Mom was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Larry’s River and as well a past member of their choir. She continued to enjoy the hymns and shared that love with the residents and staff of the home. Surviving are Betty’s daughters, Terry (Peter) Avery, Mary (Arnold) Avery, both of Larry’s River; sons, John (Helen), New Minas; Stephen (Hilda), Liverpool; grandchildren, Shane (Tobi) Avery, Brent (Barbara) Avery, Jennifer (Andrea) Avery, Christopher (Linda) Avery, Shawn Murphy, Telena (Drew) and Lauren Murphy; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Ethan and Brooke; sisters, Gladys Barron, Marion Scollard, Doris Currie, Alice Avery, Mildred MacLean and brother, Joey Avery. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; daughter, Judy Ann; son, Rene’; granddaughter, Danielle Avery; brothers, Joseph, Donald, Ronald, Harold; sisters, Claire Fraser and Eva Pitts. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larry's River with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only, Please. Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Guysborough Memorial Hospital or Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough.
