NICHOLSON, Ernest William "Ernie"- Age 84, Whycocomagh Mountain, Inverness Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2016, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Bucklaw, Victoria Co., he was a son of the late Donald and Jenny (Finlayson Davison) Nicholson. Ernest worked for many years at the Gypsum Quarry in Little Narrows. He played the fiddle since a young age until this past Christmas. He constructed his first fiddle and then taught himself to play. He always loved having a goodtime. He enjoyed working around his yard and in his shed. He always enjoyed getting a new "Ford" car. Ernest was always a hard worker and would always lend a helping hand when needed. Ernest was predeceased by his first wife, Annabelle (Ross) Nicholson. Surviving are his second wife, Nellie (MacDonald) Nicholson, Whycocomagh Mountain; daughter, Jean (Paul) Dorton, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Irvin (Philippe Degraeve), Halifax; William, British Columbia; Norman, Halifax; sister, Mora Johnson, Ontario; grandchildren, Tony, Cory, Lance, Kai, Joshua, Matthew, Jonathan and Bethany; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; stepsons, Kevin (Ellen) MacDonald, Frankie (Anne Marie) MacDonald, both of Whycocomagh; as well as several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence and Eric; sisters, Viola, Della, Irene and Alice. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday from Little Narrows Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial in Little Narrows Cemetery at a later date.
