PHILLIPS, Richard Joseph -45, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Richard and Mary Emily (Gould) Phillips. Richard was a Volunteer Fireman with the We’koqma’q Volunteer Fire Department and was also a 1st Responder. He loved life to the fullest and loved and respected family and friends. There wasn’t a mean streak in his body. He had a great sense of humor and took pride in his job as We’koqma’q Security. He was always there when help was needed from all. He was known as "The Godfather" from all his godchildren. He loved hockey and was the biggest Boston Bruins fan. He is survived by his spouse, Delores Sylliboy; daughter, Lauren Marie, We’koqma’q; son, Richard lll, at home; grandsons, Kayson and Raiden; sisters, Angela (Ken Googoo), We’koqma’q; Margaret (Ekklit) and Steve Simon, Malagawatch; Carol Marshall, We’koqma’q; Andrea (Poopsie) Paul, We’koqma’q; brother, Al Gould and Cindy, Eskasoni; step brother, Calvin Poulette, We’koqma’q; aunts, Magit Poulette, Flo Young, Freda Bernard, Marina Denny, Rita Isaac, Norma Doucette, Christine Googoo, Clare Phillips; uncles, Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy, Roddie Gould, Francis Gould, Russell Gould, Kenny Gould, Rod Phillips; in-laws, Georgina Julian (Merle), Bernie "Bonky" Sylliboy, Rachael Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews; godmother, Sally Cope, Millbrook; godchildren, Josh Poulette, Jesse Googoo, Hunter Julian and Caroline Phillips. He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Dianne Toney; infant twin brothers, Simon and Joseph; step brother, Kevin D. Poulette; grandparents, Joe and Mary Ellen Phillips and Frank and Mary Jane Gould; godfather, Roger Cope; brother-in-law, Dave Paul. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Saturday in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd, We’koqma’q First Nation. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Monday from Blessed Kateri Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q with Father Paul Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
